Tie Domi joined the CBC’s inaugural Battle of the Blades Competition in Autumn of 2009 to raise money for an important charity, and to learn a little bit about figure skating! Tie was paired with figure skating champion Christine Hough- Sweeney, also known as Tuffy. Tuffy was a Canadian pairs skating sensation with Doug Ladret in 1984 and the pair went on to compete five times at the World Figure Skating Championships and twice at the Winter Olympics. The celebrated team won a total of six medals at the Canadian Nationals. Christine was a strong partner to help model Tie’s athletic talents to the figure skating world.
Tie and Tuffy made a dynamic duo on the ice and learned to respect each other’s sports and talents. With a lot of hard work and practise, this pair starred each week in the stiff Battle of the Blades’ competition, well into the final phases of the contest. For their dedication, a charity of their choice received a $25000 donation. Tie and Tuffy both are extremely kid focuses, and with Tie’s son having diabetes, Diabetes Hope Foundation was a perfect charity to choose.
