It has been a BLAST!

Hi Everyone!

I want to thank everyone for all of their support. It has been a BLAST!

I especially want to thank my partner, Tuffy, who retired 13 years ago…she came back and made me look good. She put up with me for 10 weeks which believe you me, can be difficult –ha ha ha! She also sacrificed a lot to do the show, being away from her twin boys and her husband, Don.

Also, I thanked many people last night after the show and I really meant my thanks! There are a number of people that don’t get enough recognition for the tireless work that they do, which make us all look good.

Tie Domi goes home when he probably shouldn’t have

It’s with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to Tie Domi.

He should have been out weeks ago, but on Sunday, I thought a lot of good things were happening in his skate. I commented to my friend Janean before they announced the bottom 2: “Man, if it’s Tuffy and Tie vs. Dubreuil and Richer, I think Tie may actually pull it off.” On Sunday, he and Tuffy did a “Boots are Made for Walking” ode to a horrible Jessica Simpson movie BUT they were actually really good. He did some footwork. He got into the music and because he was playing a tough cow boy, his cockiness worked with the music.

The “Stash” is Back!

BELOVED FORMER LEAF LANNY McDONALD TO GUEST JUDGE ON CBC-TV’s BATTLE OF THE BLADES

Lanny McDonald, one of the most beloved Toronto Maple Leaf players, is returning to historic Maple Leaf Gardens as a guest judge on CBC Television’s BATTLE OF THE BLADES, Sunday, October 25 and Monday, October 26, at 8 p.m. McDonald is married to figure skater Ardell McDonald, making the hockey legend’s story one that mirrors what the BATTLE OF THE BLADES has accomplished.

KRISTINA LENKO AND BOB PROBERT FIRST TO BE ICED ON CBC-TV’s BATTLE OF THE BLADES

Marie-France Dubreuil and Stéphane Richer back for another week

Marie-France Dubreuil and Stéphane Richer are the first pair to be saved in the BATTLE OF THE BLADES figure skating competition, joining the six remaining pairs for a chance to win $100,000 for the charity of their choice. Kristina Lenko and Bob Probert were the first eliminated, as the results were revealed during tonight’s broadcast.

Gardens gets new life for TV

Hockey players will soon be skating again at Maple Leaf Gardens. They’ll be figure skating, but there they’ll be, on the same ice that Toronto’s hockey legends once called home.

And the public will have the chance for one more peak inside the venerable, yellow-bricked hockey palace on Carlton St.

In a neat twist, the CBC announced yesterday that Battle of the Blades, a new show featuring former NHLers paired with world-class female champions in a figure skating competition, will air live from the Gardens beginning Oct. 4.

A Gardens party

Old Leafs try ice dancing in reality TV show

Historic Maple Leaf Gardens will play host to the CBC reality television show Battle of the Blades, in which hockey legends pair up with figure skaters to dance for charity.

“We have had an enormous reaction to the show being at the Gardens. A lot of people are excited to get the chance to walk into the Gardens,” John Brunton, executive producer of the show said last night from Los Angeles.

“The building hasn’t been gutted and we will bring in our own ice surface. Some seats are still there and we can easily replace the ones that are gone,” he said.

“A lot of the charm of the building still exists.”

The last NHL game at the Gardens was played Feb. 13, 1999.

Hockey Hall of Famers Lanny McDonald and Glenn Anderson as well as former Maple Leafs fan favourite Tie Domi will team up with figure skating stars such as Jamie Sale, Shae-Lynn Bourne and Barbara Underhill to perform ice dancing routines in front of a live audience.

More participants in the show will be announced at a later date.

The show will be hosted by Ron MacLean of Hockey Night in Canada and former world figure skating champion Kurt Browning. Up to 5,000 spectators are expected at the Gardens show.

It will air in October.
